Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2015
Catalina Morales, 23, representing the municipality of Guaynabo, was crowned Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2015 last night at Complejo Ferial de Puerto Rico Juan H. Cintrón in Ponce. She was crowned by the outgoing queen Gabriela Berríos. She will represent her country at Miss Universe 2015 pageant whose date and venue have not been confirmed.
The first runner-up was Nivalis Perez, Miss Aguas Buenas, who was a heavy favorite for the crown. When Morales's name was announced as the winner, boos could be heard from the audience.

Miss Venezuela 2014
Mariana Jimenez, a 20-year-old social communications student representing the state of Guarico, was crowned as the new Miss Venezuela 2014 on October 9th in Caracas. She will now compete in the 2015 edition of Miss Universe pageant. Two other titles were awarded during the evening: Maira Alexandra Rodriguez, Miss Amazonas, was crowned Miss Earth Venezuela 2014 and will compete in Miss Earth 2015 pageant. Edymar Martinez, Miss Anzoategui, was crowned Miss Venezuela International 2014 and will compete in Miss International 2015.

Lisa Madden was crowned Miss Universe Ireland 2014 on October 10. She will compete in Miss Universe 2014 pageant to be held in Doral, Florida on January 25, 2015. Madden is a 3rd-year dentistry student and a model with the Andrea Roche Modeling Agency.

Sitti Abbas Mtemvu was crowned Miss Tanzania 2014 at the Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam on October 11. The runners-up were Lillian Kamazima and Jihhan Dimachk. Mtemvu will compete in Miss World 2015 whose date and venue have not yet been confirmed.

Miss World Korea 2014
Song Hwa-young was crowned Miss World Korea 2014 at the Star City in Seoul on October 11. She will represent Korea at the upcoming Miss World 2014 pageant in London on December 14. At the same event, Seo Young Seok was crowned Mr. World Korea 2014 and will compete in the next edition of Mr. World, whenever that may be.

Miss World Philippines 2014
The new Miss World Philippines 2014 is Valerie Clacio Weigmann, 24, who was crowned October 12 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. She was the heavy favorite for the title. She will now represent her country in the Miss World 2014 pageant in London on December 14th. Her court includes 1st runner-up Lorraine Kendrickson, 2nd runner-up Nelda Ibe, 3rd runner-up Nicole Donesa, and 4th runner-up Rachel Louise Peters. Weigmann was crowned by the current Miss World Megan Young from the Philippines.

Miss Switzerland 2014
Laetitia Guarino, a 21-year-old medical student, was crowned Miss Switzerland 2014 in Bern last October 11. The first runner-up is Michèle Stofer. Unfortunately, Guarino will not be competing in Miss Universe as the director gave up the franchise.

Noyonita Lodh from Bangalore was crowned Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Universe 2014 (Miss Universe India 2014) on October 14. Delhi's Alankrita Sahai was crowned as Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Universe 2014 1st runner-up and Bangalore's Asha Bhat as Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Universe 2014 2nd runner-up. Lodh will represent India at the 2014 Miss Universe pageant in Doral, Florida on January 25, 2015. Sahai will compete in Miss Earth 2014 pageant to be held in Manila, Philippines on November 29. She will represent Zambia at the 2014 Miss Earth pageant to be held in Manila, Philippines on November 29. As a young child I was always fascinated with glitz and glamour. The aura that surrounds pageants has always had a magnetic attraction for me.
How does it feel to represent Zambia in Miss Earth 2014?
Being able to represent Zambia in Miss Earth 2014 gives me a sense of pride and the opportunity to create more awareness for the country and in so doing, gives Zambia international exposure as the competition takes place on an international platform. I feel as though I have accomplished something greater than myself.
Tell me about your country and why we should visit it.
Zambia is a diverse, friendly and to a large extent, unspoilt country. Because Zambia is mostly a natural habitat and lacks a large developed sector, there are beautiful and natural features, for example the Victoria Falls, which is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and most importantly one of the biggest eco-tourism attractions in Zambia.
The Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya, which translates to the Smoke that Thunders, is a waterfall in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as the largest, based on its width of 1,708 metres and height of 108 metres resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling water.
The official language of Zambia is English, which is used to conduct official business and is the medium of instruction in schools. The main local language, especially in Lusaka, is Nyanja. However, Bemba and Nyanja are spoken in the urban areas in addition to other indigenous languages. The total number of languages spoken in Zambia is 73.
From our fauna to our flora, from the breath-taking views to our developing infrastructure, from our mother-tongue to our adoption of 73 languages, Zambia is a must to visit.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a child I wanted to be several supernatural beings: a witch, a unicorn, a mermaid but settled to be, the most attainable, a princess.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I believe my strengths lie in the fact that I am a natural leader who likes to be in charge; I value security and tradition, am loyal, straight-forward and honest, hard-working and dependable. I am driven to fulfil my duties and will follow projects through to completion and have a clear set of standards and beliefs by which I live.
However, I have no doubt that my weaknesses include being rather ridged in my ideas and lacking the ability to be flexible.
Give three adjectives that your friends would use to describe you.
Dry-witted, enthusiastic and supportive.
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
When I look in the mirror I am delighted with who is looking back at me, from an exterior point of view. From an interior point of view, I am very proud of my reflection as I have fought hard to like the person staring back at me.
How do you measure success?
In my opinion, success is measured by the content of someone’s character.
How do you handle criticism?
Neither positive nor negative criticism is easy for me to handle, but I am able to digest positive criticism a little easier. Criticism in general is a hard pill to swallow.
If you were to come back as an animal in your next life, what would you be and why?
I struggle to keep quiet so I would like to come back in my next life as a parrot, not forgetting that their colouring makes them highly fashionable and beautiful.
What is the environmental advocacy that you are promoting right now and that you will promote when you compete in Miss Earth 2014?
Basically the environmental advocacy which I chose was the water crisis in Zambia. There are many diseases that are spread through the lack of fresh drinking water as well as sanitation. I would like to influence the public policy in social, economic, political, cultural but most importantly, environmental spheres in order to bring about positive change in human rights as well as environmental issues. The advocacy which I have chosen involves both protecting the public from environmental hazards and protecting the natural world as a whole.
Technology makes life very convenient but it is also being blamed for certain environmental problems. How do you propose to find a balance between technology and earth preservation?
It is possible to find a balance between technology and earth preservation. An example of this can be seen in Zambia in the rural areas where technology is used to benefit farmers through irrigation practices and thus contributes positively to the environment by returning nutrients to the soil that would otherwise be lost. The drip irrigation system in Zambia has proven that technology has been successful and efficient in poor communities. This system involves collecting rain water which would otherwise have been washed away as run-off and wasted but has now been used to move down through soil quickly in order for the roots to absorb it thus farmers and their families are given life opportunities instead of starving from a lack of rainfall.
If you are to save only one of the two elements of Mother Nature, water or air, which would you choose and why?
Without a doubt I would choose water as water contains oxygen and therefore makes it life-sustaining (hopefully). Water is used to sustain both land and aquatic life forms so in actual fact you are getting two for the price of one.
How would you describe the beauty of nature to a blind child?
The beauty of Mother Nature does not lie solely in what we see. I would describe beauty in the sounds of nature, the songs of birds, the roar of lions and the whisper of the wind in the trees. Nature has countless wonderful fragrances from the exotic smell of flowers to the smell of wet grass after a heavy rainfall.
And then there are textures: the papery roughness of bark, the softness of mosses and the warmth of rabbit fur. Instead of trying to explain what may never be understood by a blind child, I would close my eyes and try to enter their world.
Which has more significance to your life right now – sunset or sunrise?
Sunrise. It is the beginning of a new day. It is the beginning of new challenges, experiences and friendships. A sunrise is always an indication of how you can improve yourself; a sunrise is hope for a better today. The warmth of a sunrise has the ability to welcome you with open arms to a new day.
What do you think of pageant contestants who have done cosmetic surgery just to enhance their beauty and think that they have a big chance of winning a crown?
Beauty needs to be paired with brains so it is a misconception to think your chance of winning a crown would be increased by having cosmetic surgery done. If you need cosmetic surgery, perhaps you do not have the basics which it takes to enter such a pageant. Being able to articulate yourself intelligently and having a personality are some factors that will enable you to carry your crown with dignity and pride.
Name three pet peeves.
People who blame anything but themselves for their failures; people who text while driving and people who push alcohol at social functions.
What will you never do?
I will never bungee jump!

True or false – people who are attractive tend to be more successful.
False. People are judges on face value so first impressions are very important as shallow as it may seem. The point here is: is attractive beauty or is attractive being able to put yourself together? Being able to pair a great exterior will automatically promote one’s great interior and therefore make you more successful than so-called attractive people. It is therefore not based solely on being attractive but rather being able to present your idea in the best gift-wrapping possible.
Do you have a problem with saying no?
No – but not when it comes to my nieces and nephew.
Describe a romantic date.
A beautiful dinner at one of my favourite restaurants with handsome company and a rose scattered here and there.

You are going to compete at Miss Earth this year. Aside from winning the pageant, what do you wish to accomplish in this said competition?
I wish to make a lasting impression on the other contestants so they will never forget their incredible experience which includes Miss Earth Zambia 2014. More than anything, I want to take full advantage of the opportunity and literally have the time of my life on the most prestigious stage that is Miss Earth International 2014.
Why do you want to be the next Miss Earth?
Being the next Miss Earth would give me the responsibility and allow me to be a role model to the youth and be able to provide education on environmental awareness. It has always been my desire to be a role model to younger children and this title would give me the privilege to make this a reality. Each of us has a responsibility toward Mother Earth and being Miss Earth would give me the capacity to make others aware as I was made aware. The Miss Earth programme provides exposure and resources across borders which expand the benefits incurred. Because Zambia is the place I call home, winning Miss Earth would allow for Zambia to gain international recognition and contribute to the country’s earth awareness by growth, sustainability, conservation and enrichment of my country.

Hot or cold?
Hot. Everything that is hot is better – from food to weather to people.
City or the countryside?
Country side. The country side has a soothing, calming effect as well as being a healing agent to my sanity.
Fame or money?
Fame. Money comes and goes but fame is forever.
Crown or career?
Crown. Once a Miss Earth always a Miss Earth. Your crown could turn into your career and a very successful one at that.
Beautiful or smart?
Smart. Beautiful is fleeting – a very lovely quality but not sustainable.
Finally, what is your message to all your Critical Beauty fans who are supporting you?
I am here whether you like it or not. This is more than a pageant. It is an opportunity to make a difference and change lives across borders.

I believe in the importance of role models within society. They help us become the person we want to be and inspire us to make a difference. A person who can positively influence and encourage people to their full potential. That is why I am invested in this programme as Miss Earth SA which is making a positive and sustainable difference in taking care of people and our planet.
How does it feel to represent Zambia in Miss Earth 2014?
I feel very blessed and grateful. I constantly want to dig in the soil and get my hands dirty and promote positive change and serve my beloved country. I want to embrace this amazing brand and show the world my love, positive attitude and ability to create opportunities for a greener future for all.
Tell me about your country and why we should visit it.
South Africa is a vibrant, unique and effervescent nation where one doesn’t have to drive far to be at peace with nature. We have the most diverse group of people with the most interesting cultures and traditions. We share our home with the majestic Big 5, and an amazing spectrum of nature, mountains and beautiful oceans.
Growing up I have always been a driven person, driven to make a difference in other peoples lives; even if it is one person at a time. I grew up on a farm, loving nature and animals and to appreciate the beauty that the earth produces. I realise that we need to preserve our mother earth. Being a natural leader I was a Drum Majorette and the leader of my team and had the opportunity to fulfil many leadership roles. Leading, giving and caring is my passion. I always wanted to be a role model, to represent the people and do something where I can make a difference.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths: Self-confidence, passion, independence, openness, thoughtfulness, warmth, sincerity, driven, creative, positive, optimist.
Weakness: I am too driven, and never stop asking assistance from my loved ones. I work extremely hard. I’m blessed to have family and friends who support me and who are always there for assistance and advice.
Give three adjectives that your friends would use to describe you.
Honest, kind, inspiring.
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
I see a woman who loves helping others, someone who is driven to make a difference. I see poise, being comfortable in my skin and believing in myself and walking for a purpose. I see the passion and energy I project as well as my commitment to everything I do.
How do you measure success?
I believe success cannot be measured by what you have achieved, but by the way you are remembered.
I believe we need criticism so we can improve who we are. Bob Murray famously said that as long you live, you shall grow. Criticism makes sure of that!
If you were to come back as an animal in your next life, what would you be and why?
Giraffe, I believe that they have the ability to see the bigger picture while remaining grounded. Coming from humble beginnings, I can totally relate to that.
I made my passion a reality and in the process I discovered who I am.

It all started with a dream and a big heart. My passion for people and the environment started many years ago. I got involved with several organisations. I was part of the Student Rag Community services, helping disabled people. I was also privileged to be elected to the House Committee of Karlien Residence. Portfolio Student RAG Community Service (SRCS) with a kindergarten in the Promosa township of Potchefstroom. This Project has 80, 2-5 year old children from a disadvantaged background. I was a member of the WOW (Women of Worth) Charity committee and was the Founder of Charity project – “Lappieskombers” project. With this project the main focus was on unemployed single mothers of Sonderwater, in the North West Province. We taught these mothers to make “lappieskomberse”, and sell them as, so as to create a financial benefit. This development of skills, creates independence and a sustainable income.
I was elected to the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the North West University Potchefstroom campus as Chairperson of the SRC: Liaison.
I chaired many projects but being the founder of the “Toeka-Makiti” project raised the bar. With the assistance and support of my committee, this project was created for all the North West University Potchefstroom campus students. This project focused on building the NWU PUK identity, pride and unity. What I mostly appreciate about my university is that we form part of the green initiative.
I believe in serving the people of South Africa, I am proudly South African.
My mission and goals:
We all face so many challenges. To deal with these challenges, the future of this world, the youth, needs to be educated, trained and develop the most important characteristic, CONFIDENCE. Confidence to communicate, administrate and educate everyone close to them.
It is my dream and passion to provide the opportunity for young people to enrich themselves with leadership skills and other empowerment skills. To be able to share and gain knowledge would also enrich me as a person, and further my personal development and growth.
I have learned through experience that no challenge is impossible if you have confidence and knowledge. A positive attitude and the will to succeed needs to be implemented amongst the youth and that will be my main objective.
I want to serve. We are capable of effortless change when we unite and tackle environmental and community issues together.

With my experience in many charity work and leadership roles, I could see the differences I made by developing people’s living conditions and attitudes. By simply conveying my confidence and love for people I changed lives. What a privilege and humbling experience...
The environment is dear to my heart. My own lifestyle is a reflection of this green initiative as I try to save and preserve as far as I can. I am proud to call myself an Earth Warrior. One tree can start a forest and I want to be that tree that can plant sustainable seeds in people’s hearts so that they can strive to be remarkable.

Technology makes life very convenient but it is also being blamed for certain environmental problems. How do you propose to find a balance between technology and Earth preservation?
I believe it is important to find common ground rather than staring at the differences. I believe that technology can help in preserving our Earth. All we earthlings need to realise and do is to find the links. We cannot recycle without the technology used in recycling plants; we cannot practise a greener work ethic without computers, email and cloud backups. As long as we are willing to see the correlation between the two we will be able to smash a perception that could otherwise be positive.
If you were to save only one of the two elements of Mother Nature, water or air, which would you choose and why?
Clean air is vital to our existence and we need to survive to create carbon dioxide for plant to survive and create even more clean oxygen. We can always rely on good old condensation to create water than we can on anything creating clean air.
The fresh feeling when it is hot and you walk outside and feel that cool breeze sweep the heat off your skin – that is what nature is like. It gives you hope. It creates a symphony in your senses that forces you to stand still for but a moment, take a deep breath and find the courage to overcome anything.
Which has more significance to your life right now – sunset or sunrise?
Sunrise... It represents a new day, new life, new beginnings... new step towards a better future a new day to make a difference.
What do you think of pageant contestants who have done cosmetic surgery just to enhance their beauty and think that they have a big chance of winning a crown?
Does not worry me, nothing wrong building confidence, but cosmetic surgery is not something I would ever consider. I am grateful for who I am. I believe we should be grateful for who you are and embrace the beauty and uniqueness which is given to us.

I am a country girl who is blessed to be doing something that not only comes naturally, but also means a lot to me. Making this planet a healthier and better place to live in is my reason for getting up in the morning. But I am sure that if you ask yourself how it is you feel about the earth and all its splendour, you will see that building a sustainable and eco-friendly future is as much a part of you as it is a part of me. Miss Universe China 2014 Nora Xu replaced by her 1st runner-up Karen Hu

This morning, Yue-Sai Kan, President and National Director of Miss Universe China, announced that Nora Xu has relinquished her title as Miss China 2014. As she is only 19 and continuing her college education, her parents did not want her to suspend her schooling to fulfill her duties.
The organization wishes Nora all the best in her future career, but is also excited to welcome Karen Hu (HU Yanliang) as the new Miss China. Karen is 24 years old, 1.80 m tall and a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy. She is an accomplished athlete and photographer, with her own studio in Beijing, and has graced numerous magazine editorials and high fashion runways in China. Karen is also fluent in English. She is currently training in Shanghai and will travel to New York for a month of preparation in December.
