In an official statement posted by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) on its website and Facebook page today, the pageant organization, headed by Stella Marquez de Araneta, announced that the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has decided not to renew its license with BPCI. This action indicates MUO's wish to promote the Miss Universe brand by requiring the production of a separate pageant to elect the Philippine delegate for the next edition of Miss Universe contest. It is not clear who the new franchise holder is.

With the Miss Universe franchise gone, the only remaining prestigious contest that BPCI still holds is Miss International. The others are Miss Intercontinental, Miss Grand International, Miss Globe, Miss Supranational, and Miss Tourism International. In 2012, the Miss World Organization dropped BPCI as the Philippine franchise holder for Miss World and offered it to Corey Quirino who then gave it up in 2017.
