Athenea Pérez, representing Murcia, makes history by becoming the first black woman to be crowned Miss Universe Spain 2023 during a gala event held on Saturday, July 1 at the Los Olivos Beach Resort in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. She had competed in Miss Universe Spain 2019 where she placed first runner-up.
The 27-year-old model, whose mother is Spaniard and whose father is from Equatorial Guinea, holds a double degree in marketing and advertising. She will now represent Spain at the next edition of Miss Universe to be held in El Salvador sometime in December.
