Anea Garcia, 20, representing the Dominican Republic, was crowned Miss Grand International 2015 in Bangkok on October 25th. Garcia was a former Miss Rhode Island USA 2015 and placed 2nd runner-up in Miss USA 2015 last July. Garcia, as well as her two predecessors, Janelee Chaparro (Puerto Rico) and Lees Garcia (Cuba) are all Latinas and represented Caribbean countries while holding U.S. passports, which makes fans wonder if the pageant owner Nawat Itsaragrisil favors Latin women with U.S. background. The pageant debuted in 2013 and seeks to stop war and violence.
Garcia's court includes 1st runner-up Claire Elizabeth Parker (Australia), 2nd runner-up Vartika Singh (India), Parul Shah (Philippines), and Rattikorn Kunsom of Thailand. The rest of the top 10 included the delegates from Brazil, Sri Lanka, Spain, Japan and Costa Rica. Completing the top 20 were the candidates from Poland, United States, Angola, France, Ukraine, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Mexico.
